What is the difference between a carbon fiber rod and a carbon fiber tube?+

A carbon fiber rod is a solid section. A carbon fiber tube is hollow and is specified with outside diameter, inside diameter, and wall thickness. The suitable form depends on the load, interfaces, weight target, and assembly design.
